Behavior Expectations
Courteous and respectful behavior is expected at all times toward other students, catechists, and parents. Students should be aware that their catechists are volunteering their time and energy to share their faith with them and deserve gratitude and respect for their dedication. No food or drink should be brought in by students without the prior permission of their catechist. Students need to respect the property of others, including that of their classmates, their classroom, and the parish.
Discipline Procedures
1.A verbal warning will be given for inappropriate behavior.
2. If behavior continues, a phone call will be made by the catechist or coordinator. A conference with parent/guardian, student, catechist and coordinator may be called.
3. The catechist may request the parent/guardian to accompany their child to class in order to alleviate inappropriate behavior.
4. If the behavior persists, the student may be suspended from the program.
Parent/Guardian Participation and Support
Your interest, time and involvement are essential for your child/ren to benefit from the PSR program. You can review each week’s lesson and activities with your child/ren. Asking questions and showing interest indicates the value you place on what students are doing each week. Weekly celebration of the Eucharist, participation in parish life and activities and financial support of the parish should be a normal part of family life.
Stewardship is a vital part of a successful St. Francis Parish School of Religion. Parents are needed in the school office, to help with attendance, making copies, and assisting in the classroom.
Cancellation Policy
If the Quincy Public Schools are cancelled or dismissed early on the day of PSR due to inclement weather, PSR classes will be cancelled.
Sacramental Preparation
In order to begin preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion in second grade or Confirmation in eighth grade, children must be enrolled the year prior to preparation in a religious education program. Preparation for the sacraments includes parent meetings during which the preparation program will be explained.
Diocesan Policy
The Diocese of Springfield in Illinois requires that all volunteers and employees that work with children in a Catholic Parish or School attend the “Protecting God’s Children” Workshop. This is an excellent workshop for parents in general. It is offered in Quincy at various times throughout the year. For more information contact Carol Seifert.
